Tanjung Balai (Karimun)
A quieter, more authentic Indonesian island. Less developed than Batam or Bintan, which is exactly the appeal.
Getting there: Sindo Ferry operates from HarbourFront to Tanjung Balai. One-way ticket is about S$53. Travel time is roughly 2 hours. Ferries also connect from Batam and Bintan.
Photography spots:
Pantai Pongkar — White sand beach at the foot of Mount Jantan. Clear blue water and striking rock formations make it a favourite for photographers.
Tanjung Gelam Beach — Said to be the best sunset spot on the island. The iconic leaning coconut trees against a purple-orange sky are a must-shoot.
Pongkar Waterfall & Mount Jantan — The highest point on the island (439m). The route up passes through forest with birds and monkeys.
Mangrove park in town — Has wooden bridges, viewing towers, and eco-friendly installations designed as photo spots.
Pavilion Karimun & Coastal Area — Popular for evening walks and selfies with the sea and town as backdrop.
