🏝️ Pulau Penyengat (via Tanjung Pinang)

This is the easiest and most historically rich option. It’s a small island just off Tanjung Pinang, Bintan.

  • Getting there: Take a ferry from Singapore to Tanjung Pinang (about 1.5 to 2 hours). From the Tanjung Pinang jetty, you then take a traditional pompong (wooden motorboat) for a 10-15 minute ride to the island. The boat costs around Rp 9,000–20,000 per person.

  • Photography Spots:

    • Penyengat Grand Mosque (Masjid Sultan Riau): A stunning yellow-domed mosque with a rich history, built in 1844. The architecture is unique and photogenic.

    • Istana Kantor (Raja Ali Haji’s Palace): The former royal palace, now a museum, offering a glimpse into the Riau-Lingga Sultanate’s history.

    • Historical Tombs: The island is the resting place of several Malay kings and heroes, offering solemn and culturally significant photo opportunities.

    • Traditional Village Life: The island has a small, friendly community. You can capture authentic daily life, old wooden houses, and the simple beauty of a place where time seems to have slowed down.
